The Skies paintings and drawings began in 2014 after taking careful notice of our skies and recording from memory occurrences and passages of motion in which I found myself immersed. The large works are made with spray paint on paper and the smaller works are colored pencil and wax crayon on paper. One area of particular interest is how vaporous droplets create form. I wanted to mimic that dynamic activity and directly tap into it by painting vaporous clouds and aircraft trails with vaporous paint, while, at the same time, recording our presence within it through a form of visual poetry.

These works are documentations of air travel with a 90-minute period across the United States
and Europe capturing our ephemeral, cyclical form in the skies. Thousands of arrival flights
were downloaded and color-coded to indicate regional airline carriers, and then were charted
with geographical accuracy.
While on the beach working on my Ocean project mapping the Ocean tides, I noticed I was
seated directly under the flight path from nearby Orange County Airport. Aircraft were overhead
either arriving or departing every few minutes. I began thinking about this constant human
activity and what its form might look like in the skies around the globe everyday as it ebbs and
flows depending on the time of day and time zone.
I devised a mapping system to record this activity by placing a large map of each Continent
(North America and Europe) on the wall and placed the semi-transparent acetate paper on top
and charted each arrival one at a time from its point of origin to its destination.
